From Riggins, Idaho - About 1 mile south of town, turn right onto Seven Devils Road, then drive 17.4 miles to the trailhead at Seven Devils Campground at 7,600 feet. The road starts out as paved then becomes steep and winding gravel for the remainder.
Season & Weather
The Seven Devils area is only passable from the first week of July through mid-October. Even during these times, extremes in conditions are not uncommon! Be prepared for anything from snow to 95-degree temperatures.

"Sheep Lake Climber's Route"
The maintained trail system to Sheep Lake is 9.4 miles each way from the Windy Saddle Trailhead and Campground via Seven Devils Trail (FST 124) and the Sheep Lake Trail (FST 123).
However, there is a more direct route known as the "Sheep Lake Climber’s Route" which is a mere 3.8 miles round trip from Seven Devils Lake Campground.
To begin your journey you will take the path through the timber in the SW corner of the campground. Once you emerge from the trees you will see the steep open slope to begin the climb. The path ascends the slope to reach a saddle at just under a mile.
It was a smoke filled day in the high country, but here are a few shots of the Sheep Lake Trail Climber's Route.
Once at the top the path can be difficult to locate at times, but it heads west on the south facing slope above Mirror Lake to reach Goat Pass at 1.3 miles.
After a short steep descent from Goat pass the route traverses ledges then descends to Sheep Lake.
